About Blyss

Blyss is a marketplace built in Nairobi, for Kenyan creators and the people who back them.

Why we built this

Across Kenya, there's a generation of independent creators — designers, writers, beat makers, course teachers, photographers, developers, communities — making real digital work and selling it directly to fans and learners.

But the tools they use weren't built for them. Stripe doesn't work in Kenya. Gumroad and Patreon don't take M-Pesa. Local platforms are either bare-bones or take a 30%+ cut. Most creators end up cobbling together a payment link, a Google Drive folder, and a WhatsApp group — losing time and money in the gaps.

We're building Blyss because that gap is unnecessary, and the people on the other side of it are some of the most talented in the country.

What Blyss does

For creators, Blyss is a single place to:

  • Open a storefront with a clean URL: blyss.co.ke/<your-name>
  • Sell digital products (templates, ebooks, beats, courses, photo packs)
  • Run subscriptions (paid newsletters, member communities, monthly drops)
  • Get paid via M-Pesa or card, with automatic payouts to your bank
  • Keep 88% of every sale (we take 12%, transaction fees are cost-only)

For buyers, Blyss is a single place to:

  • Discover Kenyan creators worth supporting
  • Pay with M-Pesa or card in Kenyan Shillings
  • Keep all your purchases in one library, redownloadable forever
  • Subscribe to creators you love and get access automatically

How we think about the platform

Creators come first. Buyers and the platform exist because creators do the actual work. So our pricing, our policies, and our support flow all start with the creator's experience.

Trust scales when payouts do. Creators in Kenya have been burned by platforms that hold money for weeks, charge surprise fees, or vanish. We pay out within 24–72 hours and our fees are documented down to the cent.

Local first, global where it makes sense. Default pricing in KES, M-Pesa as a primary payment method, support in English and Swahili. We add cross-border tools when local needs are met first.

Editorial, not algorithmic. The marketplace surfaces creators chosen by humans, not engagement metrics. We'd rather feature 50 great stores well than 5,000 stores poorly.

The work is the product. Creators sell what they make. Blyss doesn't have ad inventory, doesn't sell user data, doesn't push creators toward viral mechanics. The economic incentive is simple: creators sell something, buyers pay for it, we take a small cut.

Who's behind it

Blyss is built by a small team based in Nairobi. We're builders ourselves — we've shipped software, run small businesses, and felt the friction of selling online from Kenya. We're betting Blyss can be the easiest way for the next generation of Kenyan creators to make a living from their work.

Open source

Blyss is built on top of Polar.sh, an Apache 2.0–licensed creator-monetization platform. We forked Polar in 2026 to add M-Pesa support, KES-native pricing, Kenyan KYC flows, and the marketplace surface that's the heart of Blyss. Our changes live in our own repo and we contribute back where it makes sense.
